VLOG: Google+

  1. I was invited to Google+ a long time ago and took a look around when I first signed up. I have not visited Google+ since then, and all I get are email notifications across the other Google services I use (Gmail, Google Docs, etc). I thought it was an interesting endeavor for Google to do given the dominance of Facebook in the social networking space, and for a while, Google+ saw great growth from the multitude of users trying to get an invite. However, now that site traffic has gone down and the site is now open to everyone, the future of Google+ is a bit uncertain to me. I thought that the deep Google integration across its services would be a defining factor, but it ended up being distracting for me. It's nice to have Facebook be isolated from the rest of your online work if you want it to be, but now even that might change as Facebook's news feed, profile pages and Like buttons are all changing as a response to Google+. Social networking will continue to evolve and it'll be interesting to see where the big search engine's network goes from here.
